Call for Competitions

The ICDAR 2015 Organizing Committee invites proposals for competitions to be held within the framework of the Conference in August 2015. Competitions should aim at evaluating the performance of algorithms and methods related to areas of document analysis and recognition.

Proposals must contain the following information:

(a) A brief description of the competition, including what the particular task under evaluation is and why this competition could be of interest to the ICDAR community.

(b) A draft of the outline of the competition describing which data is planned to be used, how will the submitted methods be evaluated and which performance measures will be used.

(c) The names, contact information, and brief CVs of the competition organizers, outlining previous experience in performance evaluation and/or organizing competitions.

The following rules shall apply to the accepted competitions:

    • Datasets used in the competitions must be made available after the end of the competitions.
    • Evaluation methodologies and metrics used must be described in detail so that results can be replicated later.
    • Reports (full papers) on each competition will be reviewed and, if accepted (the competition run according to plan and is appropriately described), will be published in the ICDAR2015 conference proceedings.
    • The results of accepted competitions will be announced during a dedicated session of the ICDAR-2015 conference.
    • Name of competition must be standardized by starting with “ICDAR2015” e.g. “ICDAR2015 Competition on …”
    • Minimum number of competition entrants for a competition to be reported at ICDAR 2015 is 5
    • Each competition has to be presented with a poster at a prominent place at the conference venue

Important Dates:

  • December 15, 2014: Submission of competition proposals.
  • December 31, 2014: Notification of acceptance.
  • January 17, 2015: Competitions publicized and open to participants.
  • April 30, 2015: Deadline for submission (for review) of full papers describing the competitions. Papers must be sent directly to the Competition Chairs. (extended to 5th May)
  • May 31, 2015: Review results on the papers.
  • June 14, 2015: Accepted camera-ready papers reporting on the competitions for inclusion in the proceedings.
